Looking Forward

I decided that one of my resolutions for 2014 will be to write a poem every day. I used to write them all the time, but it's been years.

Without further ado.... I present to you the first of my "Poetry of 2014" series.
(fingers crossed that I can keep this up!)

Looking Forward

As the year begins
I reflect on the past
On the changes
And the things that stayed the same
On things that became real
And the things that continue to elude me.
Those are the things that plague me.
Those are the things that keep me up at night.
Those are the things that I will fight.
I will rage against
  Idleness.
  Insecurity.
  Ineptness.
  Insecurity.
The future. This year. Tomorrow. Today.
I will not fail.

  1. Love it, Michelle. The concept of the blog, and this poem it self. I, too, wrote something (a song & song lyric) in the recent past that plys heavily on the terms "rage" and "insecurity," too. Only, in mine, it was the insecurity that was raging. "Nothing can compete with... raging insecurity." Insecurity trumps all, when it's raging. The only way to change that is to rage back and truly change it; not just compensate for it with false bravado. A tough task for anyone, but totally attainable.

    1. Thanks for the kind words. Agreed. That damn insecurity really does override everything once it rears its ugly head. The battle continues. I will win.
      Eventually. :)
